Workshop on Marine Bearings — Gdańsk, Poland

Workshop on Marine Bearings — Gdańsk, Poland

The COST Action Ocean Tribology Center shares highlights from the first day (07-05-2026) of its Workshop on Marine Bearings — a field visit that brought research challenges to life inside one of Europe’s foremost ship repair facilities.

A highlight of the day was a visit to Remontowa Shiprepair Yard S.A., one of Europe’s leading ship repair and conversion facilities, offering members a rare and invaluable look into the real-world operating environment of marine bearings and tribological systems.

🔧Inside the ship workshop and engine room, the challenges at the heart of the network’s research became tangible: the wear, load, and lubrication demands placed on marine bearings under actual service conditions are a powerful reminder of why advancing this field matters.

🌊Observing the real condition of the marine environment surrounding an active industrial shipyard added further context — reinforcing the environmental responsibility that drives the Ocean Tribology community toward cleaner, more efficient bearing and lubrication solutions.

A very special thank you to Prof. Wojciech Litwin for the outstanding organization of this workshop. His dedication and expertise made Day 1 both enriching and seamlessly run.
