Working Group 4

Condition monitoring & diagnostics for operational systems in ocean environments

In WG4 the ambition is to combine smart sensing and data-based prognostics in reliable condition monitoring tool for systems during operation, applied to representative use cases with different characteristics.

Description of work: In line with WG1-WG3, collaboration will start from joint investigation of the state- of-the-art related to sensors and condition monitoring strategies (already applied in the considered context or with future application potential) (T4.1). Two areas for collaborations have been further identified: (i) sensor technology, e.g., looking for upcoming sensor technology in different contexts and assess replicability towards ocean systems (T4.2); and (ii) data processing and condition monitoring itself, particularly also looking at robustness of methodologies, data needs & availability, and extrapolation from numerical, experimental and operational data towards real-life conclusions (T4.3).

Tasks:

T4.1: Review of current sensors & condition monitoring tools;

T4.2: Aligning novel sensors with specific use case needs;

T4.3: Optimizing data-based prognostics for ocean systems.

Engineering Sustainable Ocean Systems Through Tribological Innovation

Connecting European expertise to develop reliable, energy-efficient solutions for offshore wind, wave energy, and marine technologies.

COST

COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding agency for research and innovation networks. Our Actions help connect research initiatives across Europe and enable scientists to grow their ideas by sharing them with their peers. This boosts their research, career and innovation. www.cost.eu

The main aim of this Ocean Tribology Center (OTC) COST Action is to create a pan-European-wide network of countries with a strong offshore affiliation for promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing towards the development of sustainable, reliable and energy efficient ocean systems.
