The COST Action 23155, Ocean Tribology members had the honour of visiting the Tenneco bearing manufacturing facility in Gdańsk — a globally recognised centre of excellence in bearing technology and precision engineering. The visit provided a comprehensive insight into the full bearing production cycle, from advanced material processing and component manufacturing through to rigorous quality assurance protocols. Observing the industrial standards and technological capabilities maintained at this facility offered our network a valuable reference point for understanding the demands placed on bearing systems in real marine and industrial service environments — and the innovation required to meet them.
The day continued with a visit to the laboratories of Gdańsk University of Technology, including the Tribology and Shipbuilding labs. These state-of-the-art research facilities showcased the depth of expertise hosted at GUT and opened inspiring conversations on current research directions, testing methodologies, and opportunities for future collaboration within the Ocean Tribology network. Once again, our deepest gratitude goes to Wojciech Litwin for the organisation and creating such a well-crafted programme that connects our community with the best of what Gdańsk has to offer in maritime and tribological research.
