Working Group 3
Optimized design methodologies for durability-by-design of ocean systems
WG3 wants to introduce tribological knowledge, heavily impacting durability of ocean systems, from the design phase and initiate industrial uptake of these ideas.
Description of work: Literature review will be the basis for a first network-wide position paper on current tribological issues in designs for various use cases (T3.1). From representative case studies, knowledge will be combined to cover failure analysis of these ocean systems and identify common flaws in design practices (T3.2). Participants will bring together existing models, with slight modifications, to provide design advice backed by numerical simulations (T3.3). Particular industrial use cases will be sought in the network as first applications (T3.4), among others based on an industry meets academia workshop during the first year of the COST Action.
Tasks:
T3.1: Classification and review of current design practice w.r.t. tribological considerations;
T3.2: Failure analysis of ocean systems;
T3.3: Model-based design for enhanced durability in different use cases;
T3.4: Towards industrial uptake of durability-by-design practices.
