Working Group 1

Mapping and expansion of relevant EU open test infrastructure, protocols and databases

WG1 aims to provide a clear overview of existing tribological test infrastructure for ocean systems in Europe, associated protocols and databases for a.o., models; linked to industrial needs.

Description of work: Involved participants will elaborate upon the available experimental facilities across Europe (and by extension also worldwide), starting from facilities and their application areas but also consulting literature (T1.1). In parallel with the experimental mapping, also available models and databases for tribological simulations will be mapped out (T1.2). Based on industrial input, possibilities and shortcomings will be mapped for various end users (wave energy, tidal energy, shipping, …) (T1.3). Using the results from these tasks, WG1 will initiate an action plan for coordinated testing towards industry based on operational capabilities, use case characteristics, etc. (T1.4), with particular attention towards properly positioning the testing capabilities of members from ITCs.

Tasks:

T1.1: Classification and review of experimental facilities for ocean systems;

T1.2: Classification and review of numerical methods;

T1.3: Aligning infrastructure, protocols & databases with industrial needs;

T1.4: Initiate coordinated approach for open testing infrastructure and procedures.

Engineering Sustainable Ocean Systems Through Tribological Innovation

Connecting European expertise to develop reliable, energy-efficient solutions for offshore wind, wave energy, and marine technologies.

COST

COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding agency for research and innovation networks. Our Actions help connect research initiatives across Europe and enable scientists to grow their ideas by sharing them with their peers. This boosts their research, career and innovation. www.cost.eu

The main aim of this Ocean Tribology Center (OTC) COST Action is to create a pan-European-wide network of countries with a strong offshore affiliation for promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing towards the development of sustainable, reliable and energy efficient ocean systems.
